HOME EXTERIOR and GARAGE

House address numbers are visible from the street?

Exterior of home is clear of trash?

Any firewood is stored away from the home's exterior walls?

Grills and other outdoor cookers are stored away from the home's exterior walls?

Garage is free of trash, empty boxes, and flammables are stored away properly?

KITCHEN

All appliances are in proper working condition?

Stove and ovens are clean and free of any spilled grease?

Cooking is never left unattended?

When cooking, all pot handles are turned in to reduce spills?

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Electrical cords are free from tears, frays or damage?

Extension cords are not under rugs or across doorways?

Electric outlets are not overloaded with multiple plugs?

Correct sized fuses are used in outlets, appliances and in fuse panel?

HEATING SAFETY

Areas around heaters and hot water heaters are clear of combustibles?

Furnace filters are replaced on a regular basis (at minimum twice a year)?

Heating appliances are inspected annually?

Fireplace is covered with a screen and chimney is clean?

Fireplace ashes are disposed of properly?

FIRE SAFETY IN GENERAL

Smoke alarms are installed near sleeping areas, on each floor and in good working condition?

Smoke alarms are tested monthly and batteries are changed every six months?

A fire escape plan is in place?

Areas in and around the home are kept clean of flammable liquids, oily rags?
If these items are necessary, they are kept in tightly sealed containers and away from heating appliances?

The clothes dryer remains clean of lint and checked for proper venting?
